Oh What Fun

By Jill Nobles (Smile Peace Love Photography)

The magic of holiday season is already among us. As a photographer, I find this time of year incredibly inspiring. My favorite part of the season is taking family portraits and designing custom holiday cards for my clients.

If you haven’t decided on your Christmas cards yet, it’s definitely not too late. Whether you are a crafter and want to make something or you just want to order cards online, there are endless opportunities to create something special that can become a keepsake cherished by your friends and family.

This season try your hand at something crafty and fun. Why not make a custom card with your kids? All you need is a digital camera, a printer and a dash of creativity, sealed with some love. With your computer’s photo software, crop or edit your photo to the right size for your card stock. Play around with brightness or contrast to remove shadows and tones, or convert to black-and-white. If your photos have been taken by a professional, be sure to ask their permission before you edit anything. Once you have the photo the way you would like it, just
print it on matte paper. From there, glue it to some card stock and add some special touches. Glitter, die cut paper designs, ribbons, any sort of decorative elements can add a special touch. You could even use your kid’s artwork instead of a photo.

But maybe you are like me and just don’t have the time to scan things and then sit around the kitchen table glueing photos and glitter to card stock. If you want a great modern, creative variety of card options you should definitely check out minted.com.

I’ve been creating for Minted since February 2014 and I have to say the holiday cards are one of my favorite parts of the site. Essentially, Minted connects you with independent artists from all over the world, who compete to get their designs included into the mix for sale on their site.

At Minted, they believe that great design lives and thrives in the hands of independent artists. Minted uses technology to allow consumers to discover great creative talent, making Minted a place where artists can learn, gain exposure, and build their businesses. Minted is a design
marketplace that sources creative content from a global community of independent artists, then they sell the best content in the form of art, home décor, and stationery, directly to consumers.

I have put together a collection of my favorite 20 holiday card designs for you to give you a place to start on their website. One of my favorite card designs this year, was created by Althea & Ruth. Her gorgeous florals always catch my eye and this year her design titled “Winter Botanicals” is absolutely amazing and perfectly on trend with current holiday styles.

While you’re on the site checking out holiday cards, don’t forget Minted has some great gift options. Be sure to stop by my artist’s storefront and check out some of my limited edition photography art prints.
