Summertime, I love everything about it, (except the mosquitoes). I can almost feel my girls imaginations expanding when I watch them chase lightning bugs and fight over whose turn it is to hold the freshly caught frog. The late nights in front of the fire listening to the crickets and watching the stars is my favorite time. We can find peace in our mountains just by being quiet, looking and listening. From hiking trails that lead to majestic waterfalls and scenic vistas, to the perfect pasture for a summer picnic; it’s all right here. Now is the perfect time to stop, smell the honeysuckle and think about what is next.
This issue of Local Flair celebrates the Pocono Mountains natural places. John Serrao writes about the troubling future of many species of our trees and John Motz explains the amazing amount of man-hours involved in maintaining the hiking trails we so often take for granted. We are proud to introduce local photographer Stephen Lippay and jeweller Ingrid Blackert, both of whom find their inspiration to create in nature.
Here’s hoping you lace up your hiking shoes, grab your golf clubs or find your fishing pole, and take advantage of everything summer in the Pocono Mountains has to offer.
And as always... keep it local.
